Here are two pics from our family b-day dinner at Kabuki! They put Spencer's name on the sign and brought him a cake.

Spencer turns 12!

We've got this birthday party thing down to a science after many years of hosting the same type of thing, only the food changes and the kids get taller! This year we made a punch that Spencer enjoys at our neighbor's, the Hagman's, Christmas party. It's: frozen lemonade concentrate, orange sherbet, almond extract, and gingerale. But if you are a 12-year-old boy, you eschew a punch bowl for a more manly orange igloo cooler!

Thursday we'd had a potluck lunch at work and it included a homemade ice cream cake that was made using layered ice cream sandwiches and various toppings. Spencer created his own ice cream cake masterpiece and it was a huge hit.

Breakfast was pancakes, sausage, bacon, and fruit salad....with more punch.

In between all the eating came a lot of Wii, Xbox, air hockey, games, running around, and watching TV. We all stayed up way too late!! Here's the food chronology of the party!!!

Surviviorman: Winter Edition

We've had an unseasonably warm and mild winter which has meant almost no snow and daffodils blooming in early February. We did get one nice little snowfall, sandwiched between two 50 degree days, so it was truly "here today, gone tomorrow." Grant took advantage of it and worked on his igloo building skills and did quite a nice job!

Spencer and the String Bass

Spencer has been playing the string bass in the middle school band since October despite the fact that he's only had one actual lesson on it! This was lesson #2! Great work teaching himself so much and thanks to Matt for the extra help!

Grant turns 10!!

Recipe for a fourth grade birthday party:

In a large house, gently mix together the following:

• Half a dozen (give or take) fourth grade boys
• Several assorted pizzas
• Xbox, Wii, air hockey, swords, nerf guns
• Pets

Let simmer.

After several hours, add an ice cream cake and gifts. Then chill boys in front of Jurassic Park movie. Add popcorn topping.

Let sleep overnight for 4-6 (8 if you are lucky) hours.

Fold in large breakfast of biscuits, eggs, bacon, hash browns, and fruit salad. Whip up the Xbox again and add garnish of snow flurries.

Serve and enjoy!

Spencer - Swimming Update

Spencer has been practicing two days a week with the H2Okies team. I try to get there about 15 minutes early to pick him up to watch some of the practice but by then they are usually finishing up with drills. I knew he was looking smooth and confident in the water, but this is the first I have seen him swim FAST!!  I told him today I don't like to lose races to anyone but my kids and I look forward to him smoking' me in the pool. I think that day may have arrived!!
